Federal authorities have officially joined a legal challenge initiated by California Republicans, seeking to block the California's recently passed congressional redistricting map.
This legal action, submitted to federal court, targets the redistricting plan supported by Governor Gavin Newsom, which was developed in response to a Republican-led gerrymander in Texas.
"California's redistricting scheme represents a brazen power grab that violates civil rights and undermines the electoral system," stated the nation's top law enforcement official.
The Democratic party have expressed confidence that the new maps will survive court challenges.
"The plaintiffs were defeated in the election and they are likely to face defeat in the judicial system," commented a spokesperson for Governor Newsom.
